Choosing Your Destination

“When’s you’re next trip?” is the questions I get often and my answer is, I have no idea. Choosing a destination to travel to can be hard when you don’t have one in mind. For me personally, I try to stay off the beaten path and not travel to places that are currently hot spots. For example, Thailand. I’ve seen so many pictures of the people swimming with or riding on the same elephant, its deterred me from going anytime soon. My plan is to save those types of destinations for later and put places I know I may not get to later in life first.

Before choosing my destination, I think of what type of trip I want it to be. Do I want to relax? Do I want Adventure? Do I want to go to another city? and when I say another city, I mean do I want to go to a place similar to New York City. The closest representation of that is London. Some people prefer to stay away from big cities because it may not be a unique experience for them or like myself, they currently live in a big city and want to get away from that.

Another way to filter through your destinations is your budget. Planning big trips take time to plan and cost a pretty penny, while small trip are the complete opposite. If your budget isn’t big, stay within the states, try the Caribbean, or surprisingly Europe. Flights to Europe are cheaper than flying within the states unfortunately. Get your passport, and book a flight asap.

If you don’t have a destination in mind, but have an event out of town, turn it into a trip. If you can, extend your stay or head out earlier, do some research, and make the best of it. Whether it be food or music festivals, plan your trip around an event. Its the easiest way to get more out of it and on the bright side, half of your trip is already planned.
